Public Previews will take place September 24 from 6-9pm and 25 from 12-3pm at both venues. But the sale of the work takes place Friday September 25th ONLY! This is a well attended event where work disappears off the walls quickly, so you will want to arrive promptly if you want a chance to purchase some of the exceptional work on display. All proceeds of the 10×10 benefit the local nonprofit, Arts Are Elementary, which has been providing arts experiences in Brunswick classrooms since 1980.
What: Many Hands: The work of
Spindleworks & SpinOff staff
When: September 1-30, 2015
Where: Little Dog Coffee Shop
87 Maine Street, Brunswick, Maine
The staff at Spindleworks and Spinoff Studios are weavers, spinners, fiber artists, painters, potters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers, and media artists. On any given day just across the block in the big blue house on Lincoln Street or in Downtown Gardiner you will see these skills in practice, but what you don’t see is that when the lights go out after a long day and the staff go home, the creative process begins again.
An endless source of creative fire that burns often late into the evening inspires our practice. This fire is fueled by honesty, compassion, vision, hope, experimentation, openness, collaboration, persistence, joy, and a sense of strong community. Perhaps it is the last one, community, that informs us the most; it is the required ingredient in all that we do. Without you, the community, we would not have a purpose in the creative work that we do. So here it is; we hope that you will feel inspired and start your own creative fire.
We are: Deirdre Barton, Maureen Block, Brian Braley, Sara Cox, Bo Dennis, Cat Foss, Elizabeth Korson, Celina Garcia Martinez, Elizabeth McGhee, Cathy Worthington. If you don’t know us, please come visit us at 7 Lincoln Street in Brunswick or in Gardiner at Spinoff Studios at 405 Water Street.
What: The 3rd Dimension
When: September 11-October 31, 2015
Where: Whatnot Gallery
7 Lincoln Street, Brunswick, Maine
Artist reception: September 11, 5-8pm
One of the many great things about Spindleworks in the summer is that there is MORE SPACE. Once the warm weather arrives, the artists start working outside on our porches, in the garden, and of course in the pottery studio and 3 D studio. We literally throw open the doors and welcome in the warm air and opportunity to work on a larger scale and with different mediums. This summer some amazing work has emerged from the clay studio, and the 3 D studio has been more active than ever, so what better reason to have a show that highlights the culmination of this creative industry! Join us for the ArtWalk reception on September 11, 5-8pm.
What: Spindleworks shining at Starz!
When: September 8-30, 2015
Where: Starz Hair Studio
64 Maine Street, Brunswick, Maine
We are always excited about an opportunity to be on Maine Street. Starz salon has hosted Spindleworks shows for three summers running. This group show was curated by Spindleworks staff Deirdre Barton. So stop by Starz for a hair cut (walk-ins welcome!), and see some Spindleworks art as well! Unlike our Lincoln Street location, Starz has weekend hours so if you have not had a chance to swing by the studios during the week, this is a great chance to find us on the weekend!
What: Celebrate Bowdoinham
