Spindleworks is excited to announce a solo exhibit by Kevin Babine. His large “posters” made with sharpie makers on matte board are reminiscent of the vintage film era including bright and colorful text and imagery. Kevin finds his inspiration in movies such as Godzilla, Dracula, The Wolfman, the Wizard of Oz, and the giant floats at the Macy’s parade. Kevin’s early works were entirely text driven, but in recent years he has added more figures, and landscape elements, creating a complex tapestry of narrative and form. Kevin keeps a library of printed materials on hand from which to draw inspiration but many of his characters are born from his own personal museum of imagery. Each piece is created with intensity and dedication. The resulting works recall the boldness of Andy Warhol, and the timelessness of the greatest of movie posters. His work has shown in Maine, New York, Rhode Island, and Washington D.C. The community is invited to join the artist and fellow Spindleworks peers for a dance party on October 6th from 11am to noon, and on Friday evening for a reception from 5-8pm. One of the many great things about Spindleworks in the summer is that there is MORE SPACE. Once the warm weather arrives, the artists start working outside on our porches, in the garden, and of course in the pottery studio and 3 D studio. We literally throw open the doors and welcome in the warm air and opportunity to work on a larger scale and with different mediums. This summer some amazing work has emerged from the clay studio, and the 3 D studio has been more active than ever, so what better reason to have a show that highlights the culmination of this creative industry! Join us for the ArtWalk reception on September 11, 5-8pm.
