At the beginning of July, a big grey recycling container rolled into Hallowell. The ecomaine Silver Bullet was put into the capable hands of the artists of SpinOff Studio, based upon sketches submitted to the company earlier this spring as part of a design competition. Spindleworks artist Justin Boisvert imagined the bullet adorned with his signature bottle image.
In the spirit of community, the SpinOff artists invited anyone to join them in the big job of turning the drab grey behemoth into a colorful and inviting recycling beacon, based on Justin’s design. With the help of the Harlow Gallery artists, local artist Matt Demers, the artists of Spindleworks as well as friends from the area, there has been a grand transformation over the course of the month. When ecomaine came to pick up the silver bullet at the end of July, it was hardly recognizable. The bullet will now be used in a nearby community to collect bottles and other recyclables while also acting as a reminder of the creative talents in Hallowell!
