Joining the program: Artists interested in accessing the program should contact Holly Randall at Independence Association: 207-504-5850. There is an application and assessment process that takes approximately one month.

We encourage you to apply for our Artist Mentor Position. Spindleworks is seeking an energetic artist to join our small team of dedicated artist mentors in a fast paced creative environment. 
Spindleworks is a program of Independence Association which supports adults with intellectual disabilities and autism. The artist mentor works with the team to facilitate the creative endeavors of over 40 artists, while also exploring developing and implementing habilitative and inclusive activities that promote personal skill development. The right candidate will have excellent communication and computer skills, and proficiency in at least two discipline/skill areas. This is a unique opportunity for artistic collaboration and community involvement. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Art Preferred

  • Proficiency in at least two discipline/skill areas. Such as video, painting, drawing, sculpture, fiber art, printmaking, etc.

  • Current portfolio

  • Must be willing and able to take courses to become certified as a Direct Support Professional, CRMA, etc. Paid training is provided

  • Ideal candidate is good with people, outgoing, thrives in an active and fast paced environment, works well both independently and as a team player

  • This person must be comfortable supporting individuals with various levels of disability

Volunteering!

There are many ways to get involved as a volunteer at Spindleworks. Would you like to teach a class? Take an artist to coffee? Teach someone a new skill? Go on a field trip? Write or research grants? Help around the property? Please contact Brian Braley at 725-8820 or bbraley@iaofmaine.org

 


Spindleworks is looking for artists to teach one to four part workshops at Spindleworks. Workshops can run from 1-1.5 hours, and are usually held here between 10:30-noon, m-f. We welcome artists working in any media including performance arts. Our facility has a drawing and painting studio, weaving studio, small printing press, wood shop and ceramics studio. Stipends are available.
