Reception: Second Friday Art Walk,July 10th, 5-8

Taking the science of mapmaking as a point of departure, artists at Spindleworks have created a show exploring the art of personal geographies. You Are Here features work in drawing and sculpture that describes both inner and outer places and spaces. Begun during a series of weekly workshops, the artists featured in this show tackled subjects including maps of the heart, real and imaginary places around the state of Maine, our town of Brunswick, and memory maps recalling home and away. The show also features sculptural work inspired by architecture and created from the simplest of materials – paper, matboard, and cardboard. Through these explorations, You Are Here reframes everyday places as extraordinary sites of discoveryAs always, the reception for our monthly shows coordinates with the Second Friday Artwalks in Brunswick. Please contact Five Rivers Arts Alliance for more details.

The Spindleworks artists are very excited that their artwork will be taking a summer holiday again this year on the beautiful Deer Isle with our friends Carole Ann and Ellen at Dow Studio. There is no shortage of work made from the heart or about the heart at Spindleworks and we are honored to share the walls with many other talented artists from Maine. Deer Isle and Dow Studio are VERY worth the trip, and of course if you cannot make it to Brunswick, Carole Ann and Ellen are our most wonderful northern embassadors. 27 of the Spindleworks artists will be represented all summer long at Dow Studio. Be sure to stop by!
